The Jewish Medical Association (UK) supports electives in Israel which aim to foster links between all UK medical schools, and medical students, with Israeli medicine.
There is a long track record of rewarding elective experience under this scheme. Host institutions in Israel help to make sure that language is not a barrier, and the exposure to medicine based in a culturally diverse society is remarkable.
All UK medical students are eligible for these bursaries, subject to the consent of both their parent and host institutions.
The following are the Israeli medical schools, along with the main teaching hospitals with which they are associated:
Bar-Ilan University based in the Galilee and has teaching hospitals in Nahariyah (Western Galilee) (where UK students have been placed previously), Nazareth (Scottish and Italian), Safed (Ziv), and Tiberias (Padeh / Poriya).
Ben Gurion University – Goldman Medical School with main teaching hospitals: Soroka, Beersheva; Barzilai, Ashkelon; and Yoseftal, Eilat.
Hebrew University – Hadassah Medical School with main teaching hospitals: Haddasah – Ein Kerem and Mount Scopus, Jerusalem; Kaplan, Rehovot; Sara Herzog, Jerusalem; and Shaarei Zedek, Jerusalem.
Technion – Rappaport Medical School with main teaching hospitals Rambam, Carmel and Bnei Tziyon, all in Haifa; and Haemek, Afula.
Tel Aviv University Medical School with main teaching hospitals Ichilov / Sourasky, Tel Aviv; Sheba / Tel Hashomer, Ramat Gan; Rabin / Beilinson, Petach Tikva; and Wolfson / Holon]
